Students Who Beat Teachers in Samburu County Write a Letter Justifying Their Actions

Kirimon Primary School in Samburu County was on Monday closed after pupils went on a rampage caning their teachers in bizarre circumstances.

The learners have since written a letter referenced, 'Reasons Why we Have Beaten our Teachers' to the board of management indicating five reasons why they resorted to violence.

1. Too many suspensions

The students complained of too many unnecessary suspensions in the school, even in cases that would be settled through the administering of punishments.

2. Teachers making them fail their examinations

Their second issue was that their teachers were making them fail in their examinations, despite their hard work, something that was frustrating them.

3. Verbal abuse

They also complained of constant abuse from their teachers, which they termed as disrespectful.

4. Harassment of boys by teachers

Boys at the school further accused their female teachers of harassing them though they did not clearly state how that was being done.

5. Turned away when consulting

The last reason they stated was that they were constantly turned away from the staffroom whenever they tried to consult on matters regarding their studies.

Teachers from the school have vowed not to resume duties saying their lives were at risk and have urged Education Cabinet Secretay Fred Matiang'i to transfer them to a different school.

They claimed that they were forced to kneel down and apologise to the pupils while raising their hands.
