Switzerland Government Distances Itself From Leaked Statement of ODM Politician Steve Mbogo's Bank Account

The Swiss Embassy has distanced itself from a letter that was allegedly written by its ambassador regarding Kenyans who have bank accounts in Switzerland.

The letter was widely shared on social media platforms and indicated individuals' names, banks, account numbers and the amount of money in the accounts.

It was referenced; "Report on Kenyan Citizens Holding Bank Accounts in Switzerland"  and was addressed to Kenya's Cabinet Secretary Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

Switzerland's Ambassador to Kenya, Ralf  Heckner stated that the letter was fake and any claims of the freezing of those accounts were unfounded.

According to the list, Starehe Constituency parliamentary aspirant Steve Mbogo had stashed Sh13.3 Billion at Centrum Bank.

Mbogo, a self-proclaimed billionaire, has often been mentioned among the richest crop of politicians vying in the August polls though his rivals claim he is a fraud.

It is alleged that he owns twelve 4-star hotels across Kenya, 32 apartment blocks in Nairobi, 2 insurance companies in Uganda, 6 nightclubs in Nakuru, Kisumu and Nairobi, and a flight training academy at Wilson Airport, Nairobi.

He is set to go head-to-head with Jubilee Party candidate Charles Kanyi aka Jaguar in the August Election in what is expected to be a tight race.

In 2015, a leaked report by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) indicated that Kenyans held Sh51.1 Billion in a single Swiss-bank, which was equivalent to what the country had set aside for infrastructure projects such as roads, airports and ports in the year 2014/2015.
