President Uhuru Kenyatta Warned Not to Endorse Jubilee Candidates During Kirinyaga Visit

A section of politicians and Independent candidates from Kirinyaga County have warned President Uhuru Kenyatta against endorsing Jubilee candidates during his campaign tour on Friday.

Kirinyaga Gubernatorial aspirant and NARC-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua asked President Kenyatta to seek his own votes but leave residents to choose leaders for other seats.

Karua's rival Macharia Karani of Maendeleo Chap Chap on his part noted that the small parties had agreed to support the President but would contest all other available seats.

“Maendeleo Chap Chap agreed to support Uhuru but field candidates for other positions,’’ Karani stated.

The leaders noted that they would meet tomorrow before President Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto's visit of the area.

The Kirinyaga gubernatorial race is one of the most heated contest that will see Karua, Karani face off with former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru and Independent candidate Muriithi Kagai.

The warning comes hot on the heels of President Kenyatta's campaigns where he has been calling on residents to embrace a six-piece voting pattern.

Meanwhile, Nyeri Jubilee Senatorial nominee Ephraim Maina on Thursday warned independent candidates and those from parties allied to Jubilee against attending the president's rallies in the county.

He disclosed that independent candidates and those from “friendly” political parties were not welcome at the event as “their appearance can cause fracas and that is (disrespectful) to the Presidency.”

Maina stated that the President's rallies were a matter of his Jubilee Party and the presence of Independent Candidates who resigned from the party after nominations could lead to chaos.
