Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko Orders Police to look into NASA's Complaints

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko has asked the police to launch investigations into complaints by the National Super Alliance (NASA) that the government was using Public servants to engage in political campaigns.

Mr Tobiko wants NASA to record a statement with the police providing evidence over the allegations they raised regarding senior government officials engaging in political campaigns.

Tobiko stated that his office was ready to prosecute officials found guilty after completion of the investigations.

Senior Government officials accused by NASA include; Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiang'i (Education), Eugene Wamalwa (Water), Mwangi Kiunjuri (Devolution), James Macharia (Transport), Najib Balala (Tourism), Cleopa Mailu (Health)  and Joseph Nkaissery (Interior).

Other officials include Ministry of Energy Principal Secretary Joseph Njoroge and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Director-General John Njiraini.

"NASA alleges that the State and public officers named above have been engaged in political activities of the Jubilee Party in breach of the law.

"NASA further alleges that the named officers have hereby committed criminal offences both under the penal code, Election Offences Act and the Anti-corruption and Economic Crimes Act," the DPP's statement read in part.

Last week, NASA threatened to sue seven Cabinet Secretaries who they alleged had been campaigning for President Uhuru Kenyatta.

During a press conference led by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, NASA gave the DPP seven days to prosecute the seven failure to which they would institute the process.
