Economic Freedom Party (EFP) Threatens to Quit Jubilee Over Alleged Plan to Rig Them Out

The Economic Freedom Party (EFP) leaders in Mandera County have threatened to quit Jubilee Party over an alleged plan to rig them out by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

According to the leaders, voters from Mandera County have been transferred to various polling stations countrywide to block them from voting.

Mandera County EFP gubernatorial nominee Hassan Noor alleged that over 50,000 voters in their strongholds have been transferred to other polling stations, making it difficult for most of the voters to cast their ballot on on August 8.

Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi on Saturday, Noor accused the Jubilee Party of plans to rig them out in favour of the incumbents seeking re-election on the Jubilee Party ticket.

“EFP candidates Hassan Noor for governor, Hassan Osman for senator, woman representative, all six for National Assembly and 30 for MCA have been moved from where they registered to other polling stations across the country, making it hard for them to participate in the election,” Mr Noor stated.

He further noted that in his case, he had registered in Rhamu in Mandera but now found that he was now a voter in Langata Constituency, Nairobi, while Osman has been transferred to Kileleshwa also in Nairobi.

Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow on his part noted that the party was keenly observing how Jubilee was treating them and would soon make a decision regarding the same.

“We are keenly watching, we have options and will not allow our votes to be stolen,” Kerrow stated.

Senator Kerrow's remarks were echoed by Mr Noor's running mate Abass Hajir who confirmed that they were reviewing their options which included terminating their deal with Jubilee.

“We have not officially moved but we are considering trashing the agreement with President Kenyatta’s party and joining the National Super Alliance," Hajir stated.

EFP is the newest party in Kenya and had earlier endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta as their Presidential candidate.
