Daisy Cherogony Sues Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) After Firing Her for Allegedly Humiliating Education CS Fred Matiang'i

Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) is now facing a lawsuit after the authority fired a security guard on grounds that she humiliated Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.

Ms Daisy Cherogony is accused of having mistreated and embarrassed Dr Matiang'i on April 16 by insisting that he queues with the other passengers who were waiting to board their flights at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The incident blew out of proportion after the CS caused a scene as he agitated to be given preferential treatment.

"He (Matiang'i) did not want to follow the queue but wanted special treatment despite the fact that it was raining and people were complaining," Ms Cherogony told the court in her application.

The security guard was two days later suspended and required to appear before a disciplinary committee.

She was then issued with a letter of dismissal on May 11 under what was termed as gross misconduct.

Daisy filed her suit at the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nyeri County seeking to have KAA pay Sh2.4 Million for wrongful dismissal.

She further indicated that she was accused of a mistake that does not exist in the security guards' handbook.

In addition, she claimed that the airport authority did not handle the matter well as she felt discriminated against and being victimised by her former employer.

KAA now has 15 days to respond to the lawsuit.
