ODM Supporters Clash in Mathare over Order to Repeat MCA Nominations

Tension is high at Mathare area 4 in Nairobi after supporters of two Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Utalii Ward aspirants clashed in the area.

The rival groups clashed while protesting a court ruling that ordered ODM to conduct fresh primaries for the MCA seat in the ward.

Chaos began after supporters of Abel Osumba Atito, who was declared the winner after trouncing the incumbent Wilson Ochola rejected the Court ruling ordering that the nominations be repeated on July 2nd, 2017.

Mr Osumba's group accused Ruaraka Member of Parliament Tom Kajwang and ODM of trying to swing the result in favor of the incumbent whereas Mr Ochola's group insisted that the exercise must take off as ordered creating clashes in the area.

The clashing rival groups are currently engaging police in running battles, hurling stones, and lighting bonfires.

Thr rivals have reportedly blocked some roads in the city including the stretch from Juja Road to Thika superhighway.
