DP William Ruto Reveals Details of Private Meeting with Kalonzo Musyoka, Uhuru Kenyatta and Jimi Wanjigi

Deputy President William Ruto has revealed unknown details of a private meeting he and President Uhuru Kenyatta held with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, Ruto noted that during the said meeting, in the run-up to the 2013 election, Kalonzo made a quite insensitive statement that forced them to immediately leave the former Vice President's home.

The said meeting has been a hot political issue as it was also attended by controversial billionaire businessman Jimi Wanjigi who was at the time supporting Jubilee and is now backing the Opposition led by Raila Odinga.

The secret talks were allegedly geared towards including the Wiper Party leader in the then Jubilee coalition presidential ticket.

On Sunday, DP Ruto revealed that the talks hit a dead end after Kalonzo made a "weird" statement on the ICC cases he (Ruto) and President Uhuru Kenyatta were facing at the time.

"The reason why we didn't engage Kalonzo Musyoka thereafter is because he told us a very weird thing, a very callous thing.

"He told us 'Gentlemen, why don't you allow me to become president? In any case, you will be in jail for 10 years, when you come back I will be through with being president and you can take over from there'," a clearly offended Ruto revealed.

The DP further disclosed that the insensitive remark showed that the former vice president could not be trusted.

He added that he had been reluctant to share those details but Kalonzo's recent outburst at a rally had prompted him to do so.

"How does that sound, now that Kalonzo decided to bring out this issue? I wasn't going to say it but that is how we left his house in a hurry because we realised we were not dealing with a friend," Ruto asserted.

The DP clarified that the Jubilee coalition did not have an issue Mr Wanjigi, outlining that Kalonzo was answerable for having dragged the businessman's name into the ongoing "circus".

Wanjigi has been at the centre of an ongoing political storm after he was reported to be the main financier of the National Super Alliance (NASA) campaigns.

The Jubilee side has been faulting the Opposition for working closely with Mr Wanjigi, a man said to have been at the heart of the infamous Anglo-Leasing scandal. On the other hand, the NASA team has been defending itself by claiming that Jubilee also had Wanjigi in its inner circles in the last elections.
