Jubilee Kiambu MCAs Who Decamped to NASA Risk Losing Their Seats

Kiambu County Speaker Gathii Irungu has announced that Kiambu MCAs who decamped to NASA on Monday will be punished.

Speaking at the County Assembly, Irungu stated that none of the sitting MCAs who moved to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) bothered to notify him.

Irungu was referring to section 194 (1) (d) of the Constitution, an MCA can only be removed if he or she resigns by notifying the Speaker in writing.

He maintained that despite the defections, Kiambu County would remain a Jubilee Party zone.

He noted that apart from the defectors, all other MCAs were supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election.

On Monday, ODM party leader Raila Odinga received 13 sitting MCAs from Kiambu who lost in the Jubilee nominations into his party.

Hospital MCA Mwangi wa Mwangi said his defection to Raila's camp reflected his democratic right to be in any party.

"Since I lost the nominations I opted to weigh options for my political career," Mwangi highlighted.

Meanwhile, Odinga is today expected to tour the vote-rich Kiambu County as he seeks to secure votes from the region considered a Jubilee stronghold.

Prior to the visit, Odinga on Tuesday morning praised Kiambu saying it has great potential that can be achieved if the government gets its priorities right.

He emphasised the importance of Kiambu as a county saying it was indispensable.

"Kiambu County continues to be central - in fact, indispensable - to prosperity and progress in our country.

"When Kiambu is strong and empowered, it can help advance opportunity and empowerment not only for its residents but for people across the entire nation," he stated.
