IEBC Disqualifies Rarieda Aspirant Netto Adholla for Using ODM Colours and Raila Odinga's Images

Rarieda Parliamentary aspirant Netto Adhola has been disqualified by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) from vying on August 8.

Adhola, who was running as an independent candidate, had earlier on been ordered by the IEBC to pay a fine of Sh250, 000 within 48 hours for using ODM Party colours and images of NASA Flag bearer Raila Odinga in his campaign materials.

According to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, Adhola had been warned that he would be disqualified if he defied the orders.

"The Electoral Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee notes that the said Netto Adhola failed, neglected and ignored to obey any of the Orders or at all," Chebukati said in a statement.

He added, "In the premises, the Commission has enforced the decision of the Committee of June 22, 2017 and hereby directs that Augustine Netto Adhola is disqualified from contesting in the upcoming General Election 2017."

The IEBC Chairman noted that though Adhola had filed an appeal at the High Court to have his punishment excluded, he had lost the case after the court upheld IEBC's decision.

Mr Adhola, who was previously in ODM, was looking to unseat incumbent Nicholas Gumbo.

Adhola quit ODM after his rival, former Ombudsman Otiende Amollo, was declared the winner in the ODM nominations in April.
