Maina Kageni and Other Topics Trending in Kenya on Thursday 6th 2017

Social media was abuzz with heated topics on Thursday as Kenyans discussed major issues happening in the country.

Here are today's trending topics:

Maina Kageni

Classic 105 presenter Maina Kageni was trending on Thursday after he emerged third in an opinion poll for the Nairobi Woman Representative contest.

The top two were ODM candidate Esther Passaris (57%) followed by Rachel Shebesh of the Jubilee Party who had 25% support.

The survey conducted by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) showed that only one percent of Nairobians preferred Kageni for the position.

Last month, Kageni cost a stir after he jokingly announced his bid to vie as Nairobi Woman -rep as an independent candidate. 

Most Kenyans on Twitter termed the one percent rating as hilarious.

This topic was trending after Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) released polls for most preferred candidates and most popular party in Nairobi County.

The poll showed that the National Super Alliance (NASA) led by Raila Odinga would emerge victorious 56% against Jubilee Party led by President Uhuru Kenyatta with 34%.

Esther Passaris was leading in the Woman Representative race, Johnson Sakaja was ahead in the Senatorial race while Governor Evans Kidero led in the gubernatorial race.

This topic was trending after the poll released by TIFA for the Nairobi County gubernatorial race showed that incumbent Evans Kidero was the most preferred candidate.

Kidero, who is vying on an ODM ticket, was leading with 44 percent while his closest competitor, Senator Mike Sonko who is vying on a Jubilee Party ticket followed closely with 43 percent.

This topic was trending after a poll released by TIFA for the Nairobi County Woman Representative race showed that ODM aspirant Esther Passaris was the most preferred candidate.

Esther Passaris was leading with 57 percent and was followed closely by incumbent Rachel Shebesh who is vying on a Jubilee Party ticket with 25 percent approval.

Three Kenyans

Kenyans were discussing this after three Kenyan drivers were kidnapped by a militia group while driving in a convoy in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The three Kenyans were abducted together with 21 Tanzanian drivers by the rebel group called Mai-Mai that operates in the DRC.

This topic was trending after governors signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) to formalise the pay deal reached between doctors and the government in March after a 3-month strike.

Two Chinese

This topic was trending after two Chinese men were arrested and arraigned in court for being in the country illegally.

They were freed on a Sh1 Million bond each with a Kenyan surety.
