Senator Hassan Omar's Campaign Convoy Attacked in Mombasa

Campaign vehicles belonging to Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar Hassan were on Friday morning vandalised in the night attack.

The attack that reportedly happened at 3:00 am saw Senator Omar's Road Show truck was vandalised and destroyed by the unknown assailants.

The attackers are also reported to have made an attempt to petrol bomb the Renaissance Centre, the Operations Secretariat for the Wiper Secretary General's campaigns.

Mombasa Urban police boss Lucas Ogara confirmed the incident terming it as an act of “pure hooliganism”.

He said a bottle of soda filled with petrol was recovered at the scene of the attack.

Senator Omar on his part accused his rival incumbent Governor Ali Hassan Joho's family of being behind the attack.

Mombasa County Director of Communication Richard Chacha, however, dismissed The claims stating that Governor Joho was's team was focused on its campaigns and “would not stoop too low by engaging to some junior opponent”.

“We believe in peaceful campaigns. We respect our opponents and they should give the respect back. He knows that he does not make good news without mentioning governor Joho’s name,” Chacha stated.

Senator Omar is seeking to be the next Mombasa County Governor and will face off with Governor Joho (ODM) Hezron Awiti (VDP) and Suleiman Shahbal (Jubilee).
