President Uhuru Kenyatta's Campaign Lobby Groups in Heated Supremacy Battles

President Uhuru Kenyatta's campaign team UhuRuto Express and Mbele Iko Sawa are in a heated supremacy contest that has caused divisions within the Jubilee Party.

The contest majorly between nomination winners and nomination losers has created a serious division that saw Gatundu South Legislator Moses Kuria's Mbele Iko Sawa warned against campaigning in Central province.

During a visit to Narok County, Kuria team was heckled as local leaders complained that they had not been informed of the visit in advance.

In Ruai, Nairobi, the Mbele Iko Sawa campaign caravan was stoned by unhappy residents.

A Source close to Mr Kuria's team while speaking to a local daily noted that the legislator's "sharp tongue and liberal use of language" discouraged some people from working with him.

The source further noted that Mbele Iko Sawa was not trusted from the beginning.

“You can’t work that way with politicians. You have to consult. That’s why you see he is working with the nominees, most of whom are new,” the source stated.

Nominated MP Isaac Mwaura, downplayed the existing friction with the team under Mr Kuria, arguing that their mandates were different.

“There is no reason why we should clash. We are campaigning for the President and have embraced all the candidates, including the independents, whom we believe will help shore up the numbers and, unlike them, we are not running for any elective seats,” he said.

Mr Kuria, on his part, stated that he would not back out and would continue with his campaigns for the President.

“I am not apologetic for what I am doing for the re-election of Uhuru Kenyatta. I am concerned with voter turnout and to see that Jubilee has a majority elected leaders,” he said.
