Jubilee Party's DP William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi of KANU Campaign Together

Given the tense relationship that has existed between Jubilee party and Kenya African National Union (KANU) few would expect the leaders of the two parties to hold a joint campaign.

For the first time in a long while, Jubilee party and KANU leaders put aside their differences and shared the same campaign platform in Baringo.

In the recent past, the two parties have had a tense relationship full of threats and allegations of intimidation and abuse from the rival party.

In an event in Narok, Emurua Dikir legislator Johana Ngeno joined Baingo senator Gideon Moi in threatening to ditch Jubilee with the leaders demanding respect from Deputy President William Ruto.

All these differences were put aside as the leaders attended a mass at African Inland Church- Kabartonjo.

Afterwards, they embarked on a campaign tour to drum up support for President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid.

KANU enjoys massive support in West Pokot and Baringo counties where its key party officials come from.

The last visit by the president in the neighbouring West Pokot County was characterized by ugly scenes. The event held on June 13 saw supporters of the two rival parties clashed violently, forcing the police to move in to calm the situation.

The situation was similar on June 25 at a Jubilee campaign in Baringo.

In Baringo, Senator Gidoen Moi will face it off with Simon Chelugui of Jubilee.
