Former Cabinet Minister Nicholas Kipyator Biwott Owned 4 Banks in Kenya

Former Kenyan Cabinet Minister Nicholas Kipyator Biwott died on Tuesday afternoon but left behind a lot of wealth which include several assets.

Listed among the richest politicians in Kenya, Biwott was one of the majority shareholders in several banks in the country.

According to a report by International Risk Consultancy Company Kroll Associates, the late Biwott had majority shares in:

1. First American Bank 

2. Pan African Bank

3. Middle East Bank  

4. Trans-National Bank 

The report describes him as a skillful businessman who accumulated power and established an enviable business empire, touching on almost every sector of the Kenyan economy, “whilst remaining in active politics”.

He had also invested heavily outside Kenya with commercial interests in Israel and Australia.

The document further indicates that he also owned Kobil Petrol, Barsirim Investment and Kipsinende Far, Rono Ltd, HZ Construction and Engineering, HZ Group of Companies, LZ Engineering, Yaya Centre (worth Sh3.5 billion), Premier Group of Companies and Air Kenya Aviation Ltd.

Biwott, popularly known as 'Total Man', served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for 28 years in Keiyo-Marakwet and Keiyo South constituencies respectively.

The businessman also held eight senior ministerial positions, working alongside former Kenyan Presidents - Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki.

Until his death, Biwott was the leader of the National Vision Party.
