Mombasa Luo Union Withdraws Support for Governor Hassan Joho's Re-election

A section of members of the Luo Union from Mombasa has withdrawn its support for area Governor Hassan Joho.

Speaking during a press conference in Mombasa, the group declared they would instead support Senator Hassan Omar for governorship despite backing NASA leader Raila Odinga for the Presidency.

The members' sentiments were echoed by the Union Chairman Remjius Ongoro, Secretary Cleopas Okoth and Organising Secretary John Mbadi.

They cited the haphazard sacking of members of the community from key jobs in the incumbent's administration.

Led by Mikindani MCA Duncan Onyango, they said the Governor had monopolised jobs and other economic opportunities in the county.

"Our stand is very simple. We do not support Joho. We cannot support Joho. We will never support Joho. Nobody can persuade us to do so," stated.

He noted that all the Luo MCAs elected on the ODM ticket were unfairly bundled out of the party primaries

.Mr Ongoro pointed out discrimination and oppression of the Luos under the current Mombasa administration.

On his part, Okoth said the community made Joho the governor and therefore deserved a bigger stake in the county government.

The ODM deputy leader who is seeking to defend his seat on the same party ticket will face off with Senator Omar who is vying on a Wiper Party ticket.
