A school bus narrowly avoided a head-on collision by veering into a ditch on Tuesday, June 17.
According to the Motorists Association, the bus driver developed an epileptic attack and lost control of the vehicle, leading to the accident along Kasarani-Mwiki road.
In photos seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the school bus could be seen stuck in the ditch on the side of the highway, although not much damage seemed to have come to it.
At the time of the publication of this article, no casualties were reported either and no students were seen in the vicinity of the vehicle.
However, this is the second school bus accident in just as many days, eliciting jitters in parents of school-going students who rely on such transport daily.
Just a day ago, a matatu ferrying students overturned on Thika Road, near Garden City Mall. Luckily, no casualties were reported in that accident either.
The matatu was reportedly speeding when it lost control and landed on its roof, prompting swift rescue efforts from passersby and first responders.
It is said to have been travelling towards the Thika direction when the accident occurred.
Videos and images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed the children safely seated by the roadside within the inner lane, though it remains unclear whether any of them sustained major injuries.
The crash triggered a heavy traffic snarl-up along Thika Road as police officers, local authorities, and boda boda riders coordinated rescue operations and worked to clear the wreckage.
Notably, the vehicle did not bear the mandatory yellow colour for school buses and was presumed to be a matatu.
Instead, it was painted pink—a violation that has reignited concerns over lax enforcement of transport safety regulations for school vehicles operating on major highways.
