National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga's advisor Mr Salim Lone has spoken out over the apparent financial crisis brewing within the Opposition coalition.
Unlike the spirited campaigns the NASA candidate put up in the 2013 General Election, the Alliance is yet to procure caps, T-shirts, branded reflector jackets, flyers, posters and billboards due to the financial glut they are currently experiencing.
The NASA presidential campaign team has also not bought any print and electronic media advertising slots.
Further raising fears that the Opposition chiefs are experiencing a credit crunch is the absense branded vehicles and caravans bearing images of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and his running-mate Kalonzo Musyoka.
According to Mr Lone, the campaign team has resulted to redirecting funds meant for campaign materials to their top priority which is protecting their votes during the General Election.
"We know our numbers and we know the breakthrough we have made in the so-called Jubilee strongholds. We are putting our foremost resources to protect the vote as we have learnt lessons from the past two elections on how the votes are stolen. We have invested in agents and trained them to guard our votes," Lone explained.
NASA Secretariat head Norman Magaya supported the statement adding that the coalition was being strategic with the campaign materials.
"The lack of campaign materials especially attire is strategic for us since we don't want to appear like we lure supporters with free caps or T-shirts to attend rallies," Maganya added.
Sources within the political outfit have also conveyed that the lack of campaign machinery has been propelled by the notion that the electorate has already decided on who they will vote for, therefore, campaign materials will not aid in garnering more votes.
Mr Lone, however, showed optimism as he hinted that NASA supporters would soon be seeing the Opposition's campaign muscle when they deploy the vote protection mechanisms.
"You will be seeing that very soon we are coming to the stage where we will be comfortable and will deploy those resources," he hinted.
