Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko's Bodyguards Shoot 2 People During Campaign

Two people were on Sunday injured after they were shot by bodyguards reportedly attached to Nairobi Senator and gubernatorial candidate Mike Sonko.

The shooting occurred following a tussle at Vumilia village in Nairobi’s Outering Road during Sonko’s political event.

According to police reports, the two were part of hundreds of youth who were fighting for handouts from the Nairobi Senator when the bodyguards shot at them.

They were rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital where they were admitted with bullet wounds in the thigh and arm.

Nairobi DCI Chief Ireri Kamwende stated that investigations into the incident had been launched.

On Monday, investigators led by Buru Buru DCI chief Jeremiah Ikiao were at the scene to gather evidence on the incident.

During a Monday interview on Iqra Fm, Sonko dismissed the incident as propaganda against him.

"Hapana hiyo ni propaganda, sikuhusika na kitendo hicho. Wakati niliondoka, kuna wezi walivamia kina mama pale." which translates to all that is propaganda instigated by my opponents and I wasn't involved in the incident. I hear after I had left there were thieves that had attacked some women there,' Sonko stated.
