Jubilee's Raphael Tuju Accuses Media of Supporting NASA During NTV Interview

Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju has accused Kenyan media stations of favouring the National Super Alliance (NASA) in their coverage.

Speaking during an interview with NTV on Sunday, the former journalist-turned-politician accused media stations of skewing the news to portray the government in bad light.

He added that media coverage on claims made by the NASA coalition was a clear indication that the media do not exercise due diligence in verifying the facts.

When asked whether he believed that the media was guilty of propagating "fake news" and giving credence to unsubstantiated claims, Mr Tuju answered in the affirmative.

"To the point that you favour NASA, yes. It is obvious you favour NASA from the way the stories are framed.

"For example, the unga thing, during the time I was in media I would have been more analytical about that. Have you checked how much a two-kilogramme packet of maize meal costs in Uganda? It is Sh202, Kenyan shilling equivalent, in Arusha it is Sh150," he illustrated.

He went on to clarify that the Opposition's claims published by the media blamed the Jubilee administration for the failed rains.

He was flanked by NASA Strategist Dr David Ndii who faulted the Nation for publishing a forged document linking him to an alleged power sharing deal between him and former journalist John Githongo.

"The document had been doing rounds on social media and I could see that and I expected the media to do a detailed analysis...The contents of the document are so fantastic that I cannot believe a serious media house would give credence to material of that nature," Dr Ndii outlined.

President Uhuru Kenyatta expressed similar sentiments during a press briefing last week where he urged the media to conduct proper research before publishing sentiment by the Opposition.
