The Ministry of Health has cancelled all medical certificates of food handlers in Nairobi County following a cholera outbreak.
Director of Medical Services Jackson Kioko directed all county health departments to vet and license the food dealers afresh.
Mr Kioko also banned hotels from outsourcing food, adding that those wishing to do so should notify the county health department 14 days in advance to allow for inspection.
He noted that his department would work with water companies to test water sold by vendors and also repair broken sewers.
Kioko further highlighted that campaigns to sensitise city residents on hygiene and sanitation had been launched.
The Medical Director also appointed a multi-sectoral task force to battle the cholera outbreak.
The main task of the team that includes experts from the Water and Irrigation ministry, UNHCR, Unicef, WHO, Red Cross and Amref is to respond to the ongoing cholera transmission.
On Saturday, County Executive in charge of Health Dr Benard Muia noted that all open cooking places in the city would be shut down.
Meanwhile, three people have already lost their lives from Cholera while 33 people are hospitalised in various health facilities in Nairobi after they were diagnosed with the deadly disease.
