National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale Accuses NASA of Having Secret Deal with IEBC on Ballot Tender

Garissa Township Member of Parliament Aden Duale on Tuesday accused the IEBC of having a secret deal with the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Speaking in Modika, the National Assembly Majority Leader claimed that the elections body was planning to award the Presidential ballot papers printing tender to a company linked to NASA.

According to the Legislator, IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati and a group of his commissioners held a secret meeting with the opposition alliance over the weekend where they discussed and agreed on a company to award the tender.

Duale alleged that NASA Leader Raila Odinga attended the meeting but did not mention the commissioners and the name of the company or the location where the meeting was held.

“We understand Chebukati and his team have agreed on an alternative company which is associated with NASA. We are however telling him that Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich has signed a letter of credit to Al Ghurair,” Duale stated.

The Presidential ballot papers printing has created a lot of debate in the past few weeks.

The opposition wants the tender awarded to Al Ghurair be revoked and had sued IEBC for allegedly flouting procurement contracts.

The High Court ruled in favour of NASA but IEBC appealed the decision arguing that there is no adequate time to conduct a new tendering process.

Jubilee, on the other hand, argues that NASA is not ready for the polls and as such they have engaged in Court battles to derail the August 8 elections.

The Court of Appeal is set to deliver its ruling regarding the IEBC appeal on Thursday, July 20th, 2017.
