Kenya Railways Corporation to Introduce Online Ticketing and Mobile Applications

The Kenya Railways on Wednesday issued a notice to all its customers regarding purchase of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) tickets.

In a notice to the media, Kenya Railways noted that there had been ticketing problems in the past and assured Kenyans that they were examining different avenues to sort the problem.

"To address the Madaraka express ticketing concern, kindly note that we are working to introduce other modes of payments which include ticketing as a priority," the notice read in part.

The Railway's body further noted that plans to introduce mobile applications and more ticketing centres were part of its new strategy to completely deal with challenges in ticketing.

"Mobile applications will also be considered as a component of the online module to address the concern on additional booking centres which are not in place for now," Kenya Railways noted.

In regards to security features on the tickets, the agency announced that they would roll out new tickets with more security enhancements that will block illegal users.

"We will soon be rolling out a new version of the tickets incorporating a passenger's details to address the issue of tickets being purchased and sold unscrupulously.

"Meanwhile, the security team on the ground will continue monitoring any such occurrences and handle them appropriately," the statement stated.

Kenya Railways noted that the changes were being fast tracked to ensure that Kenyans start enjoying better services as soon as possible.
