NASA Leaders Cancel Eldoret Rally to Attend Bethuel Kiplagat's Funeral

National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders have cancelled their planned tour of Eldoret town, which was set for Saturday, to attend the burial of former Ambassador Bethuel Kiplagat.

The Opposition, which had announced a three-day tour of the North Rift region, on Wednesday stated that the planned Eldoret rally would now be postponed to Sunday, July 23.

Opposition Leader Raila Odinga and the NASA brigade are expected to start their tour of the vote rich Rift Valley on Friday.

On Friday, the Principals will split into three groups to host several rallies in Elgeyo Marakwet County. Some of their planned stop overs include Tot, Kapsowar, Tambach, and Chepkorio after which they will hold a major rally in Iten town. 

On Sunday, the Opposition leaders are expected to hold a consultative meeting with NASA Rift Valley leaders after which they will conclude their tour with a rally at the 64 Stadium in Eldoret Town.

The Late Ambassador Kiplagat will be buried in Mosoriot on Saturday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, DP William Ruto and a host of other politicians are expected to attend the funeral.

The former Truth Justice and Reconciliation Committee (TJRC) Chairman died on Friday, July 14th at Nairobi hospital aged 81 after a long illness.

Prior to his death, the former diplomat served in former President Daniel Arap Moi’s government as Kenya's ambassador to France, high commissioner to Britain, and permanent secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 13 years (1978-1991)

His most recent job was chairing the TJRC, a position from which he resigned in 2012.
