NASA Leaders Accuse Jubilee Administration of Using Lamu Curfew to Rig Elections

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has alleged that the Jubilee administration is planning to use a dusk-dawn curfew in Lamu county to steal votes.

Speaking at Mkunguni Square on Lamu island, NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga stated that the curfew was a plan to scare away voters from turning up during the election day.

The Opposition Leader further noted that the curfew was not a solution to dealing with insecurity in the county and asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to lift the curfew immediately.

"Whatever it is that Jubilee plans to achieve with the curfew isn't genuine. We want it lifted immediately because it will affect the voting pattern ... the government should strengthen the security apparatus instead of opting for curfews," he told residents at a rally on Saturday.

Mr Odinga also took a swipe at the Jubilee administration for failing to withdraw KDF soldiers from Somalia stating that Kenya was in more need of security than Somalia.

"The KDF has no business in Somalia when its country is in dire need of security," the Opposition leader said.

NASA deputy flag bearer Kalonzo Musyoka on his part noted that having a curfew two weeks to elections was not legitimate.

"Bringing a curfew two weeks to the election is a way of rigging and trying to force leaders to the people," Musyoka stated.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula also called for the removal of the curfew stating that the ban was not necessary at the moment.

Earlier this month, acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i gazetted a three-month curfew following increased al Shabaab attacks in the region.
