Presidential Debate Was a Waste of Time - President Uhuru Kenyatta Tells Nyeri Residents

President Uhuru Kenyatta has explained that he missed the eagerly awaited presidential debate because it was a waste of time.

Speaking on Tuesday during a campaign rally in Nyeri, Kenyatta stated that he deliberately failed to attend the debate since he had nothing to discuss with his opponent, NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga.

Kenyatta further noted that he was focused on launching projects adding that the Opposition leader did not have an “agenda for this country”.

“Do you want me to spend my time responding to Raila or commissioning projects? I decided that he will debate alone because I have nothing to debate with him. I will not waste my time there,” he stated.

He was speaking hours after a section of Kenyans heavily criticised him for missing out on the chance to sell his manifesto and defend his administration.

Earlier on, the Head of State had noted that he opted to address his supporters directly rather than using the media.

Addressing Mukurweini residents, he urged them to re-elect the Jubilee administration in order to protect the development projects he had initiated.

“I am here to talk to you, not through the media but directly, because I want you to understand the foundation we have laid in the last four years.

“I am sure you want to see progress. So are you going to let that man take over and come spoil things again?” he posed.
