IEBC Summons Marsabit Politicians After Chaos at President Uhuru Kenyatta's Rally

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has summoned two Gubernatorial candidates from Marsabit following the chaos that saw three people shot after President Uhuru Kenyatta's rally in the County yesterday.

The commission has summoned incumbent Ukur Kanacho Yattani of Frontier Alliance Party and Jubilee Party's Mohamud Mohamed Ali to appear before IEBC's Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee on Friday, July 28 at 8 am.

During the incident, three people were shot as police struggled to disperse rival groups supporting the two candidates who had clashed.

Two of the victims were seriously wounded while one was treated and discharged at Marsabit Referral Hospital.

Earlier in the day, the same groups had clashed at Moi Girls High School just before Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto arrived in Marsabit town.

Last week, IEBC threatened to suspend all political campaigns in Eldoret Town after supporters of Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, and his rival, Zedekiah Kiprop Bundotich aka Buzeki, clashed.

Supporters of Buzeki were travelling in a convoy that encountered those of Mandago and a melee ensued, leaving seven people seriously injured.

The victims of the political ‘tug of war’ were rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they were treated and discharged.

The electoral commission has been trying to maintain peaceful campaigns and leaders have been warned against inciting or instigating violence.
