Buzeki Fined Sh500,000 by IEBC for Using President Uhuru Kenyatta's Image

Uasin Gishu governorship candidate Ezekiel Bundotich popularly known as Buzeki has been fined Sh500,000 by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The billionaire businessman who is vying as an independent candidate was punished for using President Uhuru Kenyatta’s image in his posters.

Buzeki who is seeking to replace incumbent Jackson Mandago was also ordered to pull down the posters within 48hrs.

On Wednesday, the candidate was summoned by the polls body over the use of President Kenyatta and Deputy William Ruto’s images despite vying independently.

Buzeki, who is a close ally of DP Ruto, was seeking to clinch the Jubilee Party ticket during the April nominations.

He, however, lost to the incumbent Governor who got 126,681 votes against Buzeki’s 82,869.

He later appeared before the Jubilee Party Elections Board complaining of massive irregularities in the voting process and requested for a repeat of the nominations.

A number of candidates, especially the independent ones, have so far been fined by the Electoral Commission for using President Kenyatta or NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga's pictures on their campaign material.
