Al Shabaab Attack Police Post in Mandera County

A police officer was Thursday morning killed and two vehicles burnt down in an attack by Al-Shabaab militia in Lafey Town, Mandera County.

The attack happened at around 2am and was executed by more than 50 armed militants. 

Lafey Deputy County Commissioner Eric Oronyi said both AP and regular police camps were attacked.

“We have lost an officer in the attack. The officer is a sergeant,” he said.

He added that three Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles at the AP camp were burnt during the attack.

At the other police camp, one vehicle was burnt and a Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to the DCIO taken away.

The burnt vehicle belonged to the area OCPD.

The attack came just hours after three people were killed by the terror group at Nyongoro area along the Garsen-Lamu Highway on Wednesday afternoon.

The three died after gunmen opened fire on the bus belonging to Kipini Raha company and a security vehicle heading to Kipini from Malindi.

According to witnesses, the militants shot randomly from the forest before police escorting the vehicle came to the passengers’ rescue.
