ODM's Evans Kidero and Edwin Sifuna Reject IEBC Preliminary Results

Incumbent Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has rejected the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) preliminary results that indicate his Jubilee rival, Mike Sonko, is in the lead.

Dr Kidero has demanded that the electoral body conduct a new physical recount of the ballots as well as fresh, clear signatures on the forms to confirm the accurate figures.

"I reject the results as they are until a physical recount is done with the forms clearly signed. What happened is glaring and cannot be entertained. They are a sham and do not reflect the will of the people," he declared.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the tally had Dr Kidero at 653,185 votes and Sonko leading with 811,995 votes.

At the same time, ODM senatorial candidate Edwin Sifuna also rejected the preliminary results that put him in second place after his Jubilee challenger, Johnson Sakaja.

The Woman Representative candidate for the Opposition party, Ms Esther Passaris, however, accepted the results during the press conference.

Provisional results show that Passaris is headed for a win with her rival, Jubilee's Rachel Shebesh coming in second.
