Kisii Ward ODM Candidate Frank Mirina Kidnapped

An Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) politician has been kidnapped hours after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) started releasing results.

Frank Mirina who was vying to be the Member of County Assembly of Kisii Central Ward was allegedly abducted while on his way to the County tallying centre to complain about electoral malpractices during the Tuesday polls.

Reports indicate that he was kidnapped at around 12:30 pm on Wednesday a few meters from Kisii National Polytechnic’s main gate by unknown people.

According to eye witness accounts, the MCA candidate was riding on a boda boda when a Probox vehicle rammed them and later, the abductors took him.

"I saw a Probox ram into the motorbike and as the bike slowed down and parked at the roadside, three men jumped out of the car and grabbed Mr. Mirina,” stated a hawker who witnessed the incident.

She added that the vehicle later sped off along Kisii - Nyamira highway.

A supporter of the ODM candidate, Amos Onsase, told the Nation that Mirina was on his way to file a formal complaint with the IEBC when he was assaulted.

He stated that he had filed a report with the police claiming that powerful forces were behind the abduction of the young politician.

Provisional results posted on the IEBC portal showed that Mirina was in 2nd place with 776 votes behind Jubilee’s candidate Kefah Mogaka who had 937 by the time of publishing.
