Peter Kenneth Promises to Support Nairobi Governor-elect Mike Sonko

Nairobi Gubernatorial Aspirant Peter Kenneth has promised to support incoming Governor Mike Sonko.

Mr Kenneth made the announcement while conceding defeat to Sonko who took the lead in the Nairobi governor's race.

The former Gatanga MP further congratulated the Senator who garnered 829,161 votes against incumbent Evans Kidero's 653,185.

"The incoming Governor has his work cut out for him and needs the support of every Nairobian to succeed. He can count on my support," he added.

Kenneth, who garnered 41,367 votes, accepted the provisional results which placed Sonko in the lead terming it as the choice of the people.

"I accept the results, congratulate the incoming governor, Mike Sonko, wish him godspeed as he takes on the enormous task ahead of him. The people of Nairobi have spoken. They have voted their choices of the people that they wish to lead them over the next years," Kenneth stated.

He further asked Kenyans to maintain calm and peace adding that it was "upon everyone to put Kenya first".

Earlier on, Governor Kidero rejected the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) preliminary results indicating that he had lost.

Dr Kidero asked the electoral body to conduct a new physical recount of the ballots as well as fresh, clear signatures on the forms to confirm the accurate figures.

"I reject the results as they are until a physical recount is done with the forms clearly signed. What happened is glaring and cannot be entertained. They are a sham and do not reflect the will of the people," he declared.
