Protests have been reported in parts of Nairobi, Kisumu and Migori counties hours after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared President Uhuru Kenyatta the winner of the 2017 presidential election.
Police officers fired gunshots in the air and used teargas to disperse protesters who had lit bonfires in Mathare, Kibera, Kawangware, Korogosho, Dandora on Friday night.
Most youths were blowing vuvuzelas and whistles while others wailed.
In parts of Kibera, the protests continued until Saturday morning with a contingent of police officers being deployed to calm the situation.
NASA supporters in Kisumu lit tire fires to protest the outcome of the presidential elections and police were deployed to man the roads. A police helicopter flew over the areas for the better part of the night.
In Siaya Town gunshots were heard as residents protested amid claims that one person was shot dead during the fracas. Some roads were still blocked in the morning after the overnight protests.
In Mombasa and Kilifi, most shops remained closed Saturday morning as police intensified patrols in the towns.
President Kenyatta garnered 8,203,290 votes (54.27%) while his closest rival opposition leader Raila Odinga amassed 6,762,254 votes (44.74%).
According to the IEBC data, 15,073,662 Kenyans turned out to vote representing a 78.91% turnout.
