A Jubilee Chief campaigner was among those who lost their kin in an accident that claimed eight lives along Meru-Nairobi highway.
Irene Kendi, who was Jubilee’s chief campaigner in Meru disclosed through social media that she lost her mother during the Saturday accident.
“Losing a mother is the worst nightmare for every child. My mom is among those who succumbed to the grisly Meru road accident today.
It will remain a dark moment for me and my family forever. Why now dear Lord?" her post read.
Red Cross Central Region Manager Gitonga Mugambi confirmed the incident stating that the injured persons had been rushed to the Meru Level 5 Hospital.
The accident occurred about 25 kilometers from Meru town after the matatu lost control while trying to overtake a boda-boda and rammed into a lorry.
According to Mugambi, the matatu was heading from Meru to Chuka for a dowry presentation ceremony while the lorry was heading in the opposite direction.
"They had hired two matatus to attend the ceremony but unfortunately got involved in an accident," Mr Mugambi stated.
