Devolution CS Mwangi Kiunjuri Announces Dates for New Governors Swearing in

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has announced the dates when the Governor-elects will be sworn in.

Addressing a press briefing at the Treasury building on Tuesday, the Devolution CS assured that the National Government was determined to ensure a smooth transition and handing over of power to the governor-elects.

“All the new governors will be sworn in next week and all counties have submitted venues and dates for the event," Kiunjuri stated.

According to the circular given to the media, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua will be the first to be sworn in on 17th August at Kenyatta stadium followed by  Embu Governor Martin Wambora the following day at Embu stadium.

The Devolution CS added that each governor would decide on the amount to be used during the respective ceremonies.

He also conveyed that they already had a list of judges and witnesses who would preside over the swearing in ceremony for governor-elects in each county.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho will be sworn in on 21st August at Mama Ngina Drive by Justice Weldon Korir and Magistrate Evans Maker.

Other Governors to be sworn in on 21st August include Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya and  Kilifi’s Amason Kingi at Karisa Maitha gardens.

Nairobi Governor-elect Mike Sonko will be sworn into office at Uhuru Park by Justice David Majanja and Magistrate Paul Mulwa on the same day.

Kiunjuri further congratulated the  47 governor-elects and members of county assembly waiting to be sworn into their respective seats and also acknowledged the electorate for exercising their democratic rights to vote in the just concluded elections.
