4 Senior ICT Bosses Involved in Sh160 Million Theft Suspended

Four senior managers at the Government's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Authority have been suspended.

Director Corporate Services Felix Ongaga, Head of Finance Daniel Ouma, Peter Mwangi, an accountant and Antony Mwangi, a cashier were sent home on Wednesday after an internal audit revealed that they had embezzled huge sums of money from President Uhuru Kenyatta's Presidential Digital Talent Programme (PDTP).

“The acting CEO suspended all the four officers in the finance and accounts department to allow for investigations,” ICT Principal Secretary Victor Kyalo said in a statement.

He added, “The Assets Recovery Unit and CID were called in to assist in the investigations of the suspected theft. We are determined to get to the bottom of this matter and those found culpable will face the full force of the law including full recovery of all amounts to the last coin.”

The bank accounts of the managers were also frozen before they moved to record statements with police.

According to the Chief Auditor, Mr Patrick Masika, the four senior officials were directly involved in fraudulent cash transfers that were masked as employee deductions, employee savings sacco deductions and per diem allowances.

They are accused of receiving Sh20 Million to their private accounts on one occasion under the guise of out-of-office allowances.

One bank facilitated payments to a single account that had over 21 different listed names of those who had access to the account.
