Kasarani Stadium to Be Closed From Thursday For President Uhuru Kenyatta's Swearing In

Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi will remain closed from Thursday as preparations continue in readiness for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s swearing in.

The Kenya Premier League has since released a statement stating that a match between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia that was scheduled for Sunday has been moved from Kasarani to Nyayo Stadium following the closure.

"This latest change of venue has been prompted by Kasarani’s hesitation to make their facility available for the match to be hosted there because the stadium is being prepared for the swearing in ceremony of the President-elect," the statement reads as quoted by NairobiNews

President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto were set to be inaugurated into office next week on August 29, had the presidential petition not been filed.

Preparations for Uhuru's swearing in seem to be ongoing regardless of the petition NASA filed at the Supreme Court to challenge his declaration as winner of the just concluded Presidential election.

NASA maintains that its presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, won the election but the IEBC employed various mechanisms to hand Kenyatta a second term in office.

The Opposition team will now be seeking to overturn Uhuru's victory at the Supreme Court where they filed a petition last Friday.

The Supreme Court judges are expected to rule on the matter by September 1st, after which it will be officially known whether Uhuru will be sworn in or the country shall be going back to the polls.
