Senior Police Officer Accused of Killing Jubilee Politician

A senior police officer has been accused of killing Jubilee politician William Mwangi Kimani in Kiambu County on Sunday.

Edward Manjulu was arraigned before a Kiambu Court on Monday for allegedly killing the politician but did not take a plea since investigations were ongoing.

Mr Manjulu is a flying squad officer attached at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters.

Prior to his transfer to the DCI headquarters, Mr Manjulu was attached at Tigoni Police Station.

He appeared before Kiambu Magistrate Justus Kituku on Monday where the prosecution requested the court to detain the suspect at Tigoni Police Station for seven days.

The magistrate accepted the request by the detectives and ordered Mr Manjulu to be remanded until September 7, when he will answer to the charges.

The accused police officer is said to have shot Mwangi at a close range as he was boarding his car shortly after leaving U-Turn bar.

The two are said to have disagreed over a bottle of beer.

Mr Kimani was a Member of County Assembly (MCA) aspirant who lost in the jubilee primaries.
