Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has announced that Friday, September 1st will be a holiday for Muslims only.
Non-Muslims are, however, expected to work as usual despite earlier reports that the day would be a holiday for all.
The day will mark the Idd-Ul-Adha (Sacrifice Feast) holiday, which is celebrated to honour the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac as an act of obedience to God's command.
"Adherents of Islam religion will celebrate the day and therefore employers should allow them to be away from work.
"For non-Muslims, this will be a normal working day," read part of the statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke.
He, however, stated that plans were underway to make it a National Public Holiday.
"The holiday is listed as a Muslim holiday but plans are underway for the Government to present a Bill in Parliament to make it a National Public Holiday."
