Deputy President William Ruto has directed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to set the date for the presidential poll. affirming the preparedness of the Jubilee Party.
Ruto was speaking at Burma market during the first campaign tour following the nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta's win by the Supreme Court.
The Deputy President affirmed the Jubilee Party would still win in the repeat exercise.
“We are now telling the IEBC to put up a new timetable for election, and we will again win with a majority. This time round not with 54 per cent but with over 70 per cent,” stated the DP.
He further pointed out that the upcoming elections will be an excellent opportunity for the Jubilee party to shame NASA led by Raila Odinga for refusing to concede defeat.
“On 8 August we defeated our competitors, Kenyans voted for a majority of Jubilee candidates in the position of governors, senators, women representatives and members of county assembly." he noted.
Shortly after the Supreme Court decision nullifying the results, President Kenyatta's and Mr Ruto addressed residents at Burma, Jua Kali and Muthurwa in Nairobi County.
They were also accompanied by Governor Mike Sonko, Samuel Tunai (Narok) and Moses Lenolkulal of Samburu county.
Garissa Town MP Aden Duale and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen were also on the campaign trail.
Mr Kenyatta, on his part, noted that he was ready for the polls affirming to the residents that the party had already begun planning for the elections that are 60 days away.
