Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto Explains Why He Has Been Missing from NASA Rallies

Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has finally spoken on claims that he has ditched the National Super Alliance (NASA) for Jubilee Party.

Speaking to KTN News, Ruto stated that he was firmly in NASA adding that he would not ditch the opposition for President Uhuru Kenyatta's team.

Regarding his absence from the political scene, the former Governor noted that he was keeping a low profile to "allow Bomet people settle" and provide an easy transition for the new regime.

"I am in NASA to stay. I have decided to maintain a low profile to allow Bomet people to settle. I know the election was marred with a lot of irregularities since government machinery was used to intimidate my supporters," he stated.

He rubbished claims that he had been approached to join Jubilee, saying that it was regrettable that most of his agents were chased out of polling centres during the elections.

"I am Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) Party leader. How can I defect to another political outfit. Jubilee has not approached me but I have seen things blown out of proportion on social media," he explained.

As to whether he would challenge the election results, he stated that it was too late for him to go to court to challenge the election.

This was the first time the NASA- Co-principal was speaking after the opposition won the Presidential petition.

The CCM Party leader has been missing during NASA's major events after the elections including; filing of the petition, Supreme Court sittings on the presidential petition, the ruling on Friday and an Opposition rally held in Mathare on Sunday.

On Monday, NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi also dismissed claims that Ruto was not in good terms with the Opposition coalition.

Speaking during a press briefing, Mudavadi stated that Ruto was still in touch with the other co-principals, adding that there was nothing to worry about.

"I would like to assure you that we are in touch with Governor Isaac Ruto.

"He has assured us that he is firmly on board...We have no doubt that he is firmly with us. He is handling a few issues.

"We have apologies from him," he stated, after constant questions from the press over Ruto's whereabouts.
