Migori ODM Leaders Warn NASA Leader Raila Odinga

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders from Migori County have issued their party leader Raila Odinga with a warning over scuffles that will cost him votes in the region.

Following chaos that broke out during voting of the speaker at the Migori County Assembly on Thursday, the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate has been asked to resolve the issue or risk losing votes from the Kuria community.

ODM Migori county Chairman Philip Makabong’o, Secretary Joseph Olala and Elkanah Kaudo called for the Members of County Assembly to to speed up talks for reconcilliation ahead of campaigns for the NASA leader.

The leaders conveyed that the loss of the Speaker seat had dealt a major blow to the Kuria people, who now feel left out of NASA politics.

"In previous elections we performed poorly in both Kuria East and Kuria West Constituencies because of many factors including sharing of county posts. Election of a Speaker from the community was our sure bet for redemption," the Secretary explained.

The ODM leaders stated that youth were hired to interrupt the procedings in the first sitting of the Assembly to prevent lawyer Kerario Marwa from winning. Mr Marwa is a member of the Kuria community.

Speaking soon after the unfortunate incident, Mr Marwa had expressed suspicions that the attack was targetted at members of the Kuria community.

"What we see from the incident is that Kuria MCAs were being chased from the Assembly to keep them from voting. I know I am the duly elected Speaker of Migori and will be sworn in soon," Kerario asserted.

However, North Kadem MCA Boaz Okoth was announced as the new Speaker after a third round vote with the ODM officials vowing to ensure Mr Marwa is elected as Speaker.
