Labour Court Declines to Suspend IEBC Team

The Labour Court has declined to suspend the new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) team that was formed to oversee the October presidential election.

The case was filed by the KIC Workers Union which urged the court to do away with the new personnel who were named by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

As of now, the team will remain in place despite several complaints launched by members of Jubilee Party.

On Wednesday, the party, through its Secretary General Raphael Tuju, issued a statement rejecting the new team claiming some of them were partisan.

In the letter, the party acknowledged its respect to the poll body and the challenges it's facing but disagreed with the list that was put forward.

"We have noted that you have established a project team...we also appreciate the difficult situation you find yourself but we have received credible information that those on the list are people known to be partisan," read part of the letter.

The document had the names of staff members the party had an issue with including:

1. Marijan Hussein Marijan  5. Joseph Ayatta

2. Salome Oyugi                      6. Joyce Ekuam

3. Decimah Mmayi                 7. Limus Onyango

4. Chrispine Owiye                 8. Caroline Manyange

"Given the fact that acts of omission or commission that rendered the elections null and void originated from the IEBC staff, we hereby register our strong objection to the deployment of the above to be in a position to run the process," Jubilee stated.
