A section of Wiper Democratic Movement leaders have hit back at the party's former Secretary General, Hassan Omar, saying he was right to resign as he did not deliver the votes he was supposed to during the August elections.
The leaders were speaking at parliament buildings on Friday where they stated that Omar's move was the right thing to do as he had underperformed.
"He came from Mombasa and Wiper did not get any seat.
"He took responsibility for his failure and resigned. That is how it should be," said one of the party's leaders.
They wished him well in his endeavours and expressed confidence in finding a suitable leader.
The leaders further assured their supporters that the party was intact and its influence should not be undermined.
"Wiper is intact in NASA and intends to deliver votes. We are the third or second most popular party in Kenya.
"We will produce the next vice-president of this country," they remarked.
Mr Omar announced his resignation on Thursday through a letter sent to Wiper Leader and NASA co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka.
In the letter, Omar stated that the circumstances around his quest for electoral justice and the reorganisation of his politics had made his position as Secretary General untenable.
He also asserted that his loss to Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho in the gubernatorial race was down to "deep-rooted personal reasons" that he would share one day.
The former Senator declared that he would be working to reposition the discourse for social justice and accountability in Mombasa and the larger Coast region through non-state actors.
