IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba Demands Apology

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba has demanded an apology for being included in a case contesting the naming of a new poll team.

Chiloba, on Friday, sought to distance himself from the case which had been filed by the Kenya Independent Workers Union to challenge the team formed by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

In a letter addressed to Wambui Ndegwa law firm, Chiloba demanded an apology from the firm for purporting to go to court on his behalf.

He also wants his name to be removed from the case which was filed in the Labour Court and is set to be heard on September 20.

On Thursday, reports emerged that the CEO and five other officials had gone to court to block the Commission from taking any disciplinary action against them over mistakes that occurred during the August 8 polls.

However, Chiloba explained that he had not instructed anyone to go to court on his behalf.

In the case filed at the Labour Court, the Union also wanted the Commission blocked from taking any action against Chiloba and the five officials.

The Court, however, declined to issue the order sought by workers' organisation saying the matter, which had been certified as urgent, would be heard after two weeks.
