President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to make several announcements when he addresses the country from Parliament buildings.
President Kenyatta will address a joint sitting of the National Assembly and Senate on September 12 at 2.30 pm.
The sitting was announced in a joint Gazette notice by House Speakers Justin Muturi and Ken Lusaka who stated that it was convened in accordance with the Constitution which requires the President to open a newly elected Parliament.
During the session, President Kenyatta will address the issue of steps taken to realise national values and the progress made so far.
He is also expected to make pronouncements on how the government has fulfilled its international obligations and submit a report on the same.
At the same time, the Head of State is likely to address the issue of expansion of the free maternal health care, introduction of free secondary school education and expansion of food and agriculture production.
President Kenyatta is also set to prevail upon both Houses, in which Jubilee enjoys majority support, to re-look into the budget to facilitate the planned Jubilee initiatives.
This comes as the country prepares to hold a repeat presidential election on October 17 following the nullification of Kenyatta's win in the August polls.
Parliament held its first sitting on August 31 when members were sworn in, followed by the election of Lusaka as the Senate Speaker and re-election of Muturi as the National Assembly Speaker.
