Former MP Suleiman Kasuti Murunga Dies After Short Illness

Former Kimilili MP Suleiman Kasuti Murunga is dead.

The former lawmaker's demise was confirmed by Bungoma Women Representative Catherine Wambilianga who noted that Murunga passed away on Wednesday evening after a short illness.

The former MP, who served as Kimilili lawmaker from 2013 to 2017 under a Ford-Kenya ticket, was undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital upon his demise.

Current Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa mourned him as a true gentleman.

“With a heavy heart, I wish to give my sincere condolences to my people of Kimilili Constituency for the loss of our former Member of Parliament Hon. Suleiman Kasuti Murunga. My deepest sympathies are with his family and friends. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Barasa wrote.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, who is the Ford Kenya party leader, eulogised the former MP as a dedicated leader.

"It is with profound sorrow and sadness that I express my condolences on the passing of Hon. Suleiman Murunga, former MP for Kimilili. His tenure from 2013 to 2017 was marked by dedication and unwavering commitment to the people he served," he noted

Wetangula also praised the former legislator for his contribution towards the Ford Kenya party. Murunga served as the party’s Director for Elections.

"As a member of Ford Kenya, he not only represented his constituents with integrity but also played a pivotal role as the party's Director of Elections, contributing significantly to the political landscape of our nation. Murunga was a champion for the needs of his community, advocating tirelessly for development and social justice." 

Subsequently, the Speaker called for residents of Kimilili and leaders of the region to honor the legacy left by Murunga by continuing the work that he had done and promoting the community’s interests.

"In this time of grief, let us honor his memory by continuing the work he was passionate about, advancing the interests of our people and strengthening our democracy," Wetangula stated.

Prominent Mulembe politician Eugene Wamalwa also mourned the death of the former MP condoling with his family and the people of Kimilili.

"Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Hon Suleiman Murunga last night, the former MP for Kimilili and eminent businessman. My prayers are with the Family and the People of Kimilili and Bungoma County who greatly cherished his leadership and generosity."
