Former Senate Majority Leader Reveals Why He Lost His Position

Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki has dismissed suggestions that President Uhuru Kenyatta demoted him by endorsing Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen for the Senate Majority Leader position.

The former Majority Leader, who announced he would be a presidential running mate in 2022, asserted that he was purposely left out by the President following a request he made.

Prof. Kindiki further denied claims that the Head of State demoted him to curtail his 2022 Presidential ambitions.

"I am the one who told the President to give me a less-engaging position because I want to play a critical role in national politics.

"I am a player in a team called Jubilee where Mr Kenyatta is the captain, his deputy William Ruto the assistant. The rest are utility players who can play any role provided that we win," the Senator explained.

Speaking during a Sunday church service, Prof. Kindiki stated that the President gave him a lighter role to allow him to traverse the nation in readiness for the 2022 showdown.

"The position of Senate Majority Leader has good exposure but it compels one to always remain in the assembly to defend government agendas," he outlined.

In August, the Professor declared that he would be Deputy President William Ruto's running mate during the 2022 presidential election.

"On December 9, 2017, Kenya will be addressed from Mukothima village and this is when we will officially start the journey to State House with Mr Ruto," the Senator stated.
