Kenyan Student Caught With Pistol in School Compound

A Form Four student at Orero Secondary School in Homa Bay County is in police custody after he was found in possession of an illegal firearm on Tuesday evening.

Homa Bay police boss Esau Ochorokodi told journalists that the student was boasting to his colleagues before the school administration was alerted.

Reports indicate that at first, he denied being in possession of the firearm but after a two-hour interrogation by police officers, he led the officers to a nearby bush where he had hidden the weapon.

"The student hid the weapon outside the dormitory. He could only retrieve it when he wanted to coerce his colleagues to submit to his demands," said Mr Ochorokodi.

Investigations revealed that the pistol is rarely used in the country, prompting questions on how the student obtained it.

Speaking to the Nation, the investigators revealed that the pistol is an American type that is not licensed to be used in the country.

The student divulged that he had obtained the firearm from a relative who lives in the United States.

Students in the school were thrown into panic following the discovery and the school's principal, Mr Dickens Mbula, said he had received a hint about the gun being in the compound.

"We received complaints from students who said one of them was threatening to shoot whoever failed to meet his demands," revealed Mr Bula.

The accused will be charged at the Homa Bay law courts with illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm.
