Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa Reveals Personnel Illegally Writing Supreme Court Verdict

A Jubilee Member of Parliament (MP) has claimed that the anticipated full Supreme Court verdict on the nullified Presidential election is being written illegally by non-judicial personnel.

Speaking during a parliamentary debate on Wednesday, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa disclosed that the Supreme Court Judges are not writing the verdict as required by the law.

He noted that civil society groups had hired researchers for the judges to help them in writing their judgments on the August 8 presidential petition filed by NASA leader Raila Odinga.

The legislator alleged that by delivering the full verdict which is due next week, the Judges will be violating the Constitution by giving critical non-independent judgments.

“We will not allow our judges to be lazy to a point where they abdicate their duties to some players sourced by civil societies. If they cannot put up with work, they should resign,” he added.

Meanwhile, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has filed a petition with the Judicial Service Commission seeking the removal of Chief Justice David Maraga.

"I am challenging how he has conducted himself since he was appointed to the Supreme Court, he has allowed Judiciary to be taken hostage by individuals," he noted.

Mr Ngunjiri pointed out that Justice Maraga did not read through the evidence brought before him during the Presidential petition hearing.

"Was the decision to nullify the elections, pre meditated? Because it seems that the Supreme Court and NASA are reading from the same book," he stated.
